Situated high up on the Berkshire Downs adjacent to the famous Ridgeway Path, Bower Farm, the home of Walters Turkeys, Bower Farm is a commercial mixed farm run by the Walters family since 1911 and they have specialised in Traditional Christmas Turkeys for nearly 45 years. The arable side of the farm is also very important as a lot of the crops are milled and mixed to make feed for their turkeys. Walters carefully selecting slow growing breeds that reach full maturity naturally, from late summer the turkeys live in large airy barns that open on to green downland fields. Every day they explore their natural surroundings pecking at the grass and bales in the fresh air. Processed and dressed in their purpose built preparation area means the turkeys don’t need to leave the farm and traditional methods are used to prepare the turkeys, they are dry plucked and hand finished, then game hung for at least 7 days in refrigerated storage rooms. They are a friendly family run business where everyone gets involved, and love and care is paramount in their production methods, which has resulted in their turkeys winning several Great Taste awards!
